Water Quality in Streams

Surrey has over 1400 kilometres of urban streams running through our neighbourhoods and parkland. These stream corridors are home to many wildlife species, and provide important spawning habitat for salmon and trout. While these watercourses are a tremendous asset for Surrey residents, the run-off from the roads and the adjacent urban areas make them vulnerable to pollution. The City, local businesses and residents must work together to care for and protect our streams and waterways. The percentage of watercourses meeting Provincial water quality standards is a measure of the health of these sensitive natural ecosystems.
