Industrial Land Base

As land value increase over time, areas zoned for industrial use face pressure from commercial and residential development. Many businesses, such as warehousing and water-borne industries, that are critical components of the Surrey and Metro Vancouver economies require industrial land. Maintaining an industrial land base supports these businesses and jobs. It also generates revenue for the City and contributes to a more diversified tax base. The industrial land base indicator is a measure of how well the city is doing in maintaining its supply of industrial land. (Note: Surrey's Official Community Plan, which came into effect in 2014, includes the "Industrial" and "Mixed Employment" designations to protect industrial land.)
