The majority of people with low income are employed, but have inadequate wages. They often work long hours or multiple jobs to pay for basic necessities. The result can be spiraling debt, constant anxiety, long-term health problems, and limited time to spend with family. Children from low-income families are less likely to do well at school, and are more likely to suffer from job insecurity, under-employment, and poor health as adults. The City aims to see a downward trend in the percentage of working poor families in Surrey. Data Source: Statistics Canada.
